Decorating a children's room include several elements, including the lighting. Changing up the lighting in the room will add some fun pops of color and unique design elements. Learn about ways to light up a child's room. Take the following ideas and use them to brainstorm with your child to help plan a lot of fun DIY projects.
Furniture Accent Lights
Add some unique lighting to the room with furniture accent lights. The lights will make the room feel bigger and help add depth to furniture pieces like shelves and desks. For example, you could add accent lights to each row on a book shelf. The lights will fill in the shadows and illuminate the spines of the books to make them stand out.
If your child has a special collection of items, then the accent lights will help highlight those. For example, a shelf or desk may display a collection of figurines. Accent lights will make the figures stand out and put a spotlight on the collection.
For the smaller areas, consider using battery-powered lights so you do not have to run cords and waste outlet space. LED lights have a long battery life so you do not have to constantly replace the batteries.
Waterproof LED Lights
Another way to add some fun accent lights to a room is with waterproof LED lights. The lights come encased in a protective barrier so you can insert them inside of water.
You have two main ways to use waterproof LED lights.
The first is with a vase. Set up a glass vase with flowers inside. Set the light up at the bottom of the vase to create a bright visual in the base. Choose from different colored LED lights to match the flowers. For example, if you have red roses, a red LED light will match well and create a nice visual.
You could also place the light in the bottom of a glass fish tank or fish bowl. Illuminate the whole water area and any fish tank supplies with unique lighting features.
Also, several waterproof LED lights come with remote controls so you do not need to take the light out of the water to turn it on and off. The remote may also include color options, brightness options, and timer settings. A whole setup could become a centerpiece to the room.
Black Lights
Add some retro style to the room with black lights. Many room elements will glow under the black lights, including paper, posters, and various plants. The lights create a unique look ideal for hanging out in and using on occasion, but not as the main light source.
Use black lights to highlight a specific area of the room. For example, you may have a wall with chalkboard paint. Chalk designs will pop and shine underneath the black light settings and create fun visuals for your child to plan out and design.
String Lights
String lights, sometimes referred to as fairy lights, provide children with safe ways to add pops of light all around their room. The lights can go anywhere, do no accumulate heat, and often run on small battery packs to operate. Children will use creative ways to decorate with the string lights. For example, a child could wrap the lights around a picture frame.
The child could hang the lights on the wall to spell out a word or message. Hang the lights from the ceiling to illuminate the room and create a soft glow. The lights come in many designs and color options, allowing a child to express themselves and make the room all their own.
