Over the years, action figures have become far more than just a playable toy for kids. The toys have become major collectibles and displays for collectors all over the world. If you've amassed an action figure collection you want to display, then follow this guide to make the most out of your collection.
The guide covers everything from lighting to display stability and solo action figure stands.
Action Figure Lighting
Really make your collection stand out with action figure lighting. The lighting is a key element for your figures, and the display case you put up should have some lighting to add depth and layers to the figures you own.
Ideally, LED light strips work the best for action figure displays. The lights do not get warm and do not feature UV rays, which can discolor the action figures over time. Place light strips on the bottom of each shelf and just above each shelf. You will have even lighting and eliminate shadows so the figure is seen in all its glory.
When you choose a light color, stick with cooler options so the action figure showcases its more natural color variants. If a lot of your figure collection features action figures still in their cases, then consider backlighting options. A subtle backlight will allow the figure pop and stand out while reducing reflections off the plastic shell.
Hang up blackout curtains or blinds in the display room to block out natural light. Along with causing wear on the figures, the light could fade the colors on action figures still left inside their packages.
Case Stability
No matter what kind of case you choose to display your action figures in, you want a stable case so you can prevent falls and major damage to your collectibles. Purchase proper hardware supplies to anchor cases to the wall. If the walls are drywalls without a proper support beam, then you should purchase drywall anchors.
The plastic anchors hold screws securely in place and allow you to anchor your shelves against the wall. You have multiple options when you anchor the shelves. One of the more basic is a strap-based anchor, which connects a shelf to the wall using a durable nylon strap.
You could also attach brackets to the back of the shelf and the wall. Connect the brackets using a strong and secure cable line. If the shelf tilts or moves, the cable will hold steady and protect the whole display from falling.
Solo Action Figure Displays
Some pieces in your collection will stand out more than others. Highlight some of the best pieces in your display case with smaller and separate shelves. Allow the figure to stand out on its own with a floating shelf. The shelf has a minimal look to the design so the action figure will stand out on its own.
If you want protection for the action figures, consider a shadow box display. The displays mount directly to walls and come in multiple shapes ideal for displaying the figures. A shadow box is ideal for a figure and accessories. For example, you could display a Batman action figure with a Batmobile on the side.
When you stand up action figures on an open shelf, prevent them from falling with support stands that have built-in brackets. The brackets wrap around the waist of a figure and prevent the toy from falling or leaning out of position. Some figures are harder to stand on their own so the figure stands will help with stability.
As you shop from brackets and stands, look for clear designs so the action figures stand out and the brackets are barely visible from a distance.
