A Thanksgiving meal is a great time to celebrate with family, eat delicious foods, and invite extra guests into your home. Along with planning out the food, you can take things a step further with a collection of kitchen projects to help with the festivities. Some of the projects will help with cooking and serving, while others help with the decor.

Browse through each DIY project, and come up with ideas how to transform your kitchen and enhance the way you celebrate Thanksgiving.

1. Lazy Susan

With a table full of guests, one of the more challenging parts of Thanksgiving is serving everyone. You can make things a lot easier with a custom built Lazy Susan. Also known as a roundtable, the table accessory features a large serving tray placed on a spinning pedestal. Load up the tray with side dishes and toppings like gravy.

When someone needs an item, the tray spins around and gives a person easy access without the need to reach across other people's plates. Building a custom roundtable gives you the chance to pick a size that fits your table and is not too big or too small for the center of the table.

Once you find a serving tray, you can find an ideal base to put the items on. Directly underneath the serving tray, you would connect a rotating bearing. The bearing then connects to a wooden base piece. If you want the serving tray to sit a little higher, then chose a stable pedestal base to place the tray on.

Adding a few extra inches of height will leave plenty of plate room on the table.

2. Table Lighting

The current lighting in your kitchen may be sufficient for daily meals, but you could have a lot of dark areas or low-lit parts that will not accommodate extra guests attending your Thanksgiving dinner. Upgrade the kitchen lighting to include some extra illumination for the dinner. For example, you can add string lights across the dining area to provide a temporary festive touch.

You could install new lighting fixtures into the home, including LED accent lighting on the walls. The accent lighting helps make the room feel larger and provides a little extra illumination around the table. Play around with different lighting solutions to really make a room shine.

3. Magnetic Kitchen Tool Holders

As you cook and prepare multiple Thanksgiving dishes, you want quick access to items without leaving knives, tongs, and spatulas laid out all over the counter. One of the easiest ways to stay organized is by building a magnetic kitchen tool holder.

The holder is fairly simple to make and includes a solid base with a large magnetic strip that goes across. Connect a base to the wall and then place all of the metal kitchen tools right on the magnet. The tools are easy to grab and will save time as you carve turkey, mix potatoes, and serve up some delicious treats.

4. Wall Décor

Change up the look of your dining room with some custom Thanksgiving wall décor. A picture wall with custom frames is enough to get started on some festive décor. For example, you can shop for frames with Thanksgiving colors like red, green, and yellow. You can also shop for blank frames and paint the edges yourself.

Once you have the frames, choose themes to go in them. For example, you could purchase a collection of cooking magazines and cut out Thanksgiving meal pictures to place inside the frames. You can create and design your own pictures for the frames. Draw a turkey or use markers to write out Happy Thanksgiving.

Mix some family pictures in the frames to add to the theme of coming together on the holiday.
